The AMS1117 is the part most 5 V-to-3.3 V designs end up using: 1 A output, a 1.1 V dropout, and a SOT-223 tab that can be soldered to a copper pour for heat spreading.
Watch the thermal budget at full load — at 1 A from 5 V in, the package dissipates around 1.5 W. For tight enclosures we usually quote a switching alternative alongside.
